Aluta Continua, striking nurses dig in

0

Monday marked the 68th day since nurses withdrew their service in protest against the government’s unwillingness to meet their demands.

The striking nurses have proved that no amount of threat will force them into submission to the government’s directive that they should return to work while their grievances are being looked into.

In July, the protesters were struck off the July payroll but they vowed not to return to work until the new Health minister Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has addressed their demands.

In a latest development, the defiant nurses through their umbrella body, Zimbabwe Nurses Association, said they will not be returning to work until their demands have been met.

“We will not getting tired of reiterating the importance of our government ensuring that the healthy sector is up and running we are greatly disturbed that until today, our pleas have not been met.”

“In holding our employer bound to its duty to ensure efficient health system, we reiterate our position that we will not return to work without proper remuneration as we are incapacitated from doing so.”

“We further reiterate that without adequate PPEs we will not return back to work as well.”

“These two demands are very reasonable and therefor non-negotiable.”

“We will continue to update you in the meantime, we continue our rallying call NO USD, NO WORK, NO PPE, NO WORK.”

The countries healthy sector is currently facing acute shortage of equipment to ensure healthy service providers are protected against COVID19, poor services and in most cases shortages of drugs.
