Six Harare Councillors arrested as court grants ZRP boss bail

Six City of Harare Councillors have been arrested on allegations of illegally parceling out state land involving millions of United States Dollars while Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner Douglas Jabulani Nyakutsikwa was freed on $15,000 bail.

The local council is currently embroiled in a controversial land distribution which has dragged top officials to court.

According to a 33 paged investigation outcome document dated 2 July 2020 in our possession there was rampant illegal sale of council land involving Acting Human capital Director Mathew Marara and the principal Housing officer Edgar Dzehonye (who have since been arrested).

The residential stands in question were sold through junior council employees, student attachees, registered and non-registered real estate agents and other freelance agents.

The report unearthed massive illegal sale of City of Harare residential stands or land between 2015-2019 in Kuwadzana township.

Meanwhile, in the same case, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner Douglas Jabulani Nyakutsikwa, 59, was not asked to plead to charges of criminal abuse of office when he appeared before Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande.

He was freed on $15,000 bail and remanded to August 28. Nyakutsikwa is jointly charged with Harare’s housing director, Addmore Nhekairo, 54.
