Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) has dismissed claims that its leader Linda Tsungirirai Masarira recently dumped her little-known party to join MDC-T.
The Party was responding to alleged reports that its leader Masarira had dumped her own party to rejoin her former party MDCT.
The rumours claimed that the outspoken female politician had been offered a parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the recalling of 15 MPS and Senators aligned to Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance party.
The 15 seats are to be replaced through nominations that came as a result of Proportional Representation.
However, the party through its secretary general’s office denied the offer claims labeling authors of the narrative as unscrupulous characters bent on destabilising the already polarised nation.
In response to the claims, the party said, “It is with on a sad note that Zimbabwean political sphere continues being polarised by non-progressive Zimbabweans, who always find means to destabilise anything which comes their way.
“Just last night, some unscrupulous characters started spreading fake news on social media, purporting that our Party President, Mambokadzi Linda Masarira, has been offered a post in the MDC. Please note that it is fake, malicious and baseless news which is spread by non-progressive Zimbabweans.”
“Mambokadzi wekwaMasarira has not been contacted in any way by any one in regard to PR seats or joining any other party. She is committed to the LEAD PARTY ZIMBABWE ideology. We are in solidarity with her, against all forms of political hate speech which has been thrown at her as a leader of our Party.”
“It is in this regard, that we reassure the LEAD Party members and supporters that our president is still in the party and is committed to her duties as our leader,” reads the statement from the party’s Secretary General.
