An employee at Zimbabwe’s biggest refrigerator manufacturer Capri recently caused panic among workmates after he tested positive for Covid -19.
A source which spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said the male employee contracted the dreadful virus recently.
However, what currently causing panic among employees is the that the incident seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
Employees are still being required to report for duty on daily basis.
As if that is not enough, the company is not observing the government’s stipulated working hours, 0800-1500hrs.
“One of us tested positive of Covid-19 but since the development we have been ordered to continue coming to work and we are extremely worried about the situation and some are afraid to retain to work on Monday appealing for the authorities to intervine.”
However, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Gary Watson dismissed the claim saying they are taking preventative measures for employees’ safety.
“We are putting in measures that are required to disinfect the premises and increasing discipline through our HR efforts to protect staff and ensure there is safety as well as preserving their ability to survive,” he told TechMag TV.
He further emphasized that as a company they will not do things that will jeopardize the health of its staff for it is their responsibility to protect them.
“Under no circumstances will we force people against their will to work for it is our responsibility to look after our employees.
“We will do what’s best for the employees safety but also not allow one incident to affect a whole work force,” said Watson.
