Mnangagwa appoints new Health Ministry Permanent Secretary

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday appointed Air Commodre Jasper Chimedza as the new permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health and Child Care following the firing of the entire officials in the ministry.

The appointment is with immediate effect.

The Health Ministry has had no leadership after the previous Minister Obadiah Moyo and his entire team were fired on corruption allegations which involved more than USD$60 million.

Air Commodre Chimedza is a holder of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degrees from the University of Zimbabwe.

Announcing the appointment, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said, “Dr Chimedza brings with him wealth of experience to the Ministry of Health and Child Care in particular and the health services sector in general where he is expected to refocus the nation’s health delivery services in order to enhance innovation ,intergrity, transparency, efficiency and vibrant stakeholder participation as the country fights the war against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

On completion of Basic’s Officers’ Military course at Buffalo Range in Chiredzi,he was promoted to the Rank of flight Lieutenant and posted to Thornhill Air Force Base as Medical Officer.

Chimedza was then appointed Director Medical Service at Air Force Headquarters thereafter and promoted to the Rank of Wing Commander.

He was previously the Director General Health Services at Zimbabwe Defence Forces Headquarters before assuming the latest position.
