MSU industrial Hub to open next month

THE Midlands State University (MSU) industrial hub is set to be operational by the end of next month with the centre having been refurbishment.

The completion of the project means the innovation hub is now set to house production of sanitisers which will come in handy in the fight against COVID-19.

Mr Charles Paradzayi who is the Director of the Innovation Hub said the operation Center will culminate in increased production of sanitizers.

“We are excited by the progress we have made in setting up the industrial hub. We are now left with furnishing the building after the renovations. What this means is that we are moving the production of sanitizers to the new hub. The production of the product will increase from the current five thousand litres to 20 thousand litres a day,” he said.

The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes, Dr Joram Gumbo who toured the plant this Thursday, urged the tertiary institution to maximize production at the hub.

“Emerging innovators and their supervisors should, therefore, be wary of reducing the hub into a space where imitations are created. Instead, solutions from the hub should answer the most pertinent questions in the country. Ultimately, the hubs should grow to a point of self-sustenance. I say this because ideas emanating from the hubs should blossom to points of commercial viability,” said the minister.

The MSU industrial hub which is located west of Gweru’s central business district is part of government’s 100-day cycle programs meant to spur national development in line with government’s vision of an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
