Strict Screening at checkpoints

Security forces have tightened screening measures at road blocks restricting non essential service workers into the city center as COVID19 deaths continue to increase.

This morning citizens were being restricted from entering the city, massive screening was being done and some had to walk into town.

This follows the President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s announcement on latest lockdown regulations which prohibit non working citizens from moving around, 6pm – 6 am curfew among other measures.

“All non working sections of the population should stay at home, Only registers SMEs must be allowed to work, “ he said.

Covid19 cases have been increasing in the country and to date the total number of confirmed cases are 1820 including 26 deaths.

Speaking to TechMag TV residents from Hatcliff said they opted to walk into the city center after denied entry.

“I had to walk and use the shortest route to town after police deemed my letter as non essential and ordered me to o home , but I have to work I cant stay home , I have to feed my children.”

Some citizens had to drop off before the checkpoints.

“ Walking was the only option for me , I got off the bus before the roadblock and used another way.”

“ We left home with a full seated bus , but only 25 passengers were allowed to pass through and the rest were told to go back home,” said one of the residents.

Speaking to those who made it into town, “It was not an easy journey today tight screening was being done at road blocks as they were coming from their various locations.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police National spokesperson commissioner Paul Nyati earlier on said, “We have noted the increasing cases of Covid-19 and fatalities, and the increasing number of people escaping from quarantine centres we, therefore, shall enforce tightened lockdown measures for the safety of the public.”

“The ZRP will tightening movement into city centers as police and security forces are to deployed at check points to allow only those witl exemption letters into the city, “ he said.
