The Public Commission Services (PSC) buses that ferry Chitugwiza civil servants to and from their work places have been halted from operating for the next 14 days amid COVID-19 scare.
Civil servants from the area have also been instructed to self isolate for a fortnight too after one of them tested positive for COVID-19.
In a message to the employees, government said,”Good morning. Due to escalating positive Covid 19 cases including deaths and an identified civil servant positive case in Chitungwiza who was using PSC buses, the PSC has withdrawn the Chitungwiza buses for 14 days.”
“Members who stay in Chitungwiza and use PSC buses should stay at home and self isolate as they are possible contacts of the affected member. Ministries are encouraged to ensure that those members can resume duties after 14 days after being tested and found negative.”
” This is being done as preventive and containment measures of the deadly pandemic. We should continue to strengthen our preventive measures by observing social distancing, sanitizing and wearing of masks.”
PSC has always been providing transport services to some of its workers as a preventative measure to cut down transport costs in light of economic challenges.
And currently in a situation where transport service has been heavily affected by the outbreak of novel coronavirus aka COVID-19, commuters have resorted to ZUPCO transport while civil servants continue using their PSC buses.
Zimbabwe has so far recorded 1,064 coronavirus cases, 20 deaths and 343 recoveries.
