Zimbabwe’s state owned fixed line operator TelOne has launched a National Operation Centre as it moves towards improving network infrastructure.
A national operations centre is essentially a central facility that is used to support the infrastructure and services offered to clients as it involves detecting and resolving services incidents and issues therefore assisting in the reduction of network down time.
Speaking at the launch Minister of ICT, Postal and courier services Honourable Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said that National Broadband Project ( NBB1) is the TelOne Network Modernisation Project funded under the China Exim Bank $98 million facility was anchored by government and is an important milestone in so far as it also harness government drive to enhance ICTs.
“As we have been told here, a National Operations centre by its very nature means that the services being delivered to end users become more efficient and it also mean that business and individuals can now work with less disruptions and indeed it also means TelOne is able to guarantee its own business into the future. This is key as it means ourselves as the shareholder also have our valued guaranteed,” he said.
He also added that, ”the realignment of the said NBB project saw the expansion of the initial scope resulting in the establishment of this facility.”
Minister Muswere commended this centre saying it is a great deal of diligence in the handling of both the technical and financial aspects of the projects as these equalities are the key as the Ministry endeavour to rebuild the country.
“We cannot afford to have our state entities lapsing and allowing projects run without thorough scrutiny and meticulous deployment. Indeed well done to Telone management,” he said.
At the official launch managing director Chipo Mtasa said national operation center came about as an expansion of the scope realising some surplus from one of the sub projects.
“The national operations centre was prioritised as Telone is emphasizing client experience as a way augment the new technologies that we are deploying and the general performance of the business. It has enabled us to move away from reactionary approach to more proactive support services,” she said.
Furthermore, Minister Muswere said the industry 4.0 technologies like artificial intelligence, data science, internet of things, and big data analytics among are the reality of the new economy and government has clearly defined these as key to transformation both under the immediate Economic Stabilization Plan the mentioned Vision 2030.
