Zimbabwe’s biggest opposition party MDC Alliance is now provisionally led by Professor Welshman Ncube, the party’s presidential spokesperson has said.
Ncube, who is the party’s current Vice President has been tasked to temporarily lead the party in the absence of the incumbent president Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa is currently not yet fit to lead following the death of his mother.
The opposition leader’s mother, Alice Chamisa, passed suddenly in the late afternoon of July 6 2020 at her home in Gutu.
She was buried on the 8th of July 2020 at Chidyamakuni Village, Makwiriwindi area of Chiwara.
In allowing himself time to mourn his departed mother, Chamisa has provisionally appointed one of his deputies to lead the party business.
The latest development was announced through Chamisa’s spokesperson Dr Nkululeko Sibanda.
“The President of the MDC Alliance Advocate Nelson Chamisa has, with immediate effect, appointed
Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube to act as President. This appointment is in line with the
rotational Acting appointments of the office. Prof Ncube will act as President till advised otherwise.”
