Organisers of the biggest annual agricultural show in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, have postponed the event to October 2020, pending consultations with the health authorities.
The event aimed at promoting agriculture, supporting its activities and facilitating agricultural development in Zimbabwe is traditionally held in August every year.
However, due to the novel coronavirus that has hit the globe, it’s no longer business as usual.
Several business activities have either been shelved or postponed as the country aims to combat the spread of the pandemic virus.
Zimbabwe Agriculture Society has not been spared, but instead of cancelling the event like what other businesses have done, the organisers have provisionally set October as the month for the even.
ZAS head for Programmes and Public Affairs, Ms Roberta Katunga said, “The 110th Zimbabwe Agriculture show has been provisionally been set for October 28 to 31 2020. The show shall be strictly a business show with only a maximum of 600 exhibitors to facilitate social distancing between exhibits.
Business to business visits shall be limited to 500 people per hour to ensure social distancing is adhered. Business visitors shall be restricted to visiting not more than 10 stands.”
Katunga added that they will be using surveillance to manage the show and they will disinfect the grounds every day.
“We will also be disinfecting grounds and halls four times a day. Drone surveillance shall be used to manage with specially market ticket being used to control business and visitor movement, showing how long one can stay for the show and, no vehicular will be allowed in the park,” she said.
