Chamisa, Graca Mourns Mugabe
HARARE -A grouping of notable African elders led by Graca Machel arrived in Harare to pay their last respects to the late former Zimbabwe leader President Robert Mugabe.
Addressing media soon after meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House Saturday morning, former wife to the late Samora Machel and South African icon Nelson Mandela Graca described Mugabe, as African icon who played a major role in the liberation struggle of Zimbabwe and the region.
“Mugabe played a pivotal role in building institutions which our region are working on. So, for you young people you only know president Mugabe for the last twenty years and my appeal to you has a balanced assessments of his contributions to African continent and challenges of leadership which he had, but it think the president did a good thing to recognize that globally and regionally,” Machel said at Miekles Hotel in Harare.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, who was traveling with Machel, said despite all the differences the late Statesman, he is mourning with the rest of Zimbabwe.
“We are Africans and we differences with Mugabe over decades and disputes around his governance and leadership, his BV BV management style, but for now let us mourn and beyond that, we will then have time to reflect on issues on where we need to correct and what we need to do,” opposition leader said.
