Updated: Parirenyatwa Denies Allegations Saying It Was A Purely Administrative Issue, Granted Bail


Former Health Minister David Parirenyatwa has been granted $500 bail this afternoon at the Rotten Row Harare magistrate court by Judge Elisha Singano.

Dr Parirenyatwa is facing criminal abuse of offices charges, allegations are that during his tenure as Minister of Health he unlawfully terminated National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) Managing Director’s contract, Flora Nancy Sikefu, on June 4 this year.

Parirenyentwa is accused of then favouring relative, Newman Madzikwa to be appointed acting managing director.

Parirenyatwa Lawyer,  James Makiwa indicated that the his client could not proffer his full defence as police are still investigating the matter, but denied all the allegations levelled against him saying everything was above board and the Minister’s decision was purely administrative.

The former Health Minister is will be back in Court on the 26th of October and as part of his bail conditions he has been ordered to surrender his passport, report to the police twice a week on Monday and Friday between 6am and 6pm.
