The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has urged the public to comply with lawful instructions from law enforcement officers at roadblocks, following reports of citizens resisting searches.

In a statement released recently, ZACC noted that its ongoing anti-corruption awareness campaign in Beitbridge has led to some members of the public, including motorists and transporters, resisting searches at roadblocks.

The commission emphasized that roadblocks are a mandatory feature of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), and officers at these checkpoints operate under statutory mandates.

Roadblocks are a mandate of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), and as such, officers at these checkpoints are guided by the statutory duties.” Reads the statement.

ZACC highlighted that the public is legally obligated to comply with lawful instructions from police officers, regardless of whether the officers are in uniform or not.

The commission also stated that resisting lawful instructions from a peace officer is an offence.

ZACC highlighted that the public is also required to comply with the country’s laws, declare goods, and pay duty to facilitate smooth travel and trade.
