Zimbabwe Independent editor Faith Zaba is expected to appear in court today at 11:15 AM for her bail hearing, facing charges of allegedly undermining the authority of or insulting the President.
The hearing was postponed from yesterday to allow the State time to review documents related to Zaba’s medical history.
Zaba, who reportedly has been on bed rest due to poor health, voluntarily presented herself to the police before her detention.
Her lawyer, Chris Mhike, confirmed that they have made submissions for bail, emphasizing his client’s fragile health.
The charges against Zaba stem from a satirical article published last Friday in the weekly’s “Muckraker” column. Mhike stated that the State considers the satire to be offensive to the authorities.
