An 82-year old man from Shamva, Mashonaland Central committed suicide on Friday after his wife had denied him access to his national Identity Document (ID).
Mashonaland Central Police Acting Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo told this publication that Zvisanza Vilazhero (82) of Chiwashira village, Chief Chiweshe in Centenary, who was mentally challenged consumed a chemical used to preserve maize.
“At around 1100hrs, Zvisanza Vilazhero was sitted with his wife Nsanza Sovina (71) at the door of their kitchen hut when Vilazhero asked for his national I.D.Sovina told him that it was safe and suddenly he stood up and entered the kitchen hut,” he said.
The wife followed and noticed the now deceased holding a Fast-Force chemical used to preserve maize, which he was also chewing.
She then called for help from other villagers who tried to render first aid but to no avail.
Upon noticing that their actions were yielding no result, they rushed him to Chawarura clinic were he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“We are appealing to members of the public to keep poisonous chemicals away from and out of reach of mentally challenged people and children,” Dhliwayo said.
